The embassy cautioned that overstaying beyond the I-94 “Admit Until Date” could lead to serious repercussions, including visa revocation, deportation, and permanent ineligibility for future US visas.
In a statement shared on X, the US Embassy emphasized, “Respect the terms of your US visa and your authorized period of stay in the United States. Remaining in the United States past your I-94 ‘Admit Until Date’ can lead to severe consequences such as visa revocation, possible deportation, and ineligibility for future visas. Overstaying may permanently affect your ability to travel, study, or work in the United States.”

The advisory comes at a time of heightened political rhetoric in the US concerning India’s energy ties with Russia. Former President Donald Trump recently criticized India’s oil trade with Russia, alleging that India profits by reselling Russian oil on the open market. In a post on Truth Social, Trump threatened to impose substantial tariff hikes on India, stating, “India is not only buying massive amounts of Russian Oil, they are then, for much of the Oil purchased, selling it on the Open Market for big profits. They don’t care how many people in Ukraine are being killed by the Russian War Machine. Because of this, I will be substantially raising the Tariff paid by India to the USA.”
Additionally, US Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene stirred controversy with a post on X, calling for an end to H-1B visas for Indian workers, claiming they replace American jobs. She also criticized US funding for the Ukraine-Russia conflict.

India has firmly defended its energy policy, asserting that its oil imports from Russia are driven by economic necessity and national interest. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a statement saying, “India’s imports from Russia are driven by necessity and aimed at ensuring predictable and affordable energy costs for Indian consumers.” The ministry labeled recent criticism from the US and Europe as “unjustified and unreasonable,” emphasizing that India will take all necessary measures to safeguard its economic security and sovereignty.
